I noticed that one of the ladies in my Rigid Heddle Weaving Group on Yahoo had tried Leno weaving. It looked interesting, so I did a search and found the article in WeaveZine called Weaver Manipulated Lace Weaves. It says this is easier done with a cotton or linen thread…something that does not have a lot of give to it. I decided to try this since I have tons of this crochet thread that I will never use for anything else and if this works out, I can use this as a runner.
I did something wrong when I was picking up my threads on my pickup stick… but it still looks ok. A little more practice all around and maybe I’ll get it right.
The little tree out back has begun to turn gold, there’s a brisk breeze today and the temps continue to drop a little each day. Lovely weather… all in all. Just wish it did not bring the seasonal allergy to go with it… Still sniffling and sneezing…yuk…
So cool — I thought I was the only person left who did rigid heddle weaving! I haven’t in a while — don’t have a craft table at the moment, as we nearly unpacked everything and then Ike hit and all our spare stuff moved back into the spare room / my craft room — but I will again sometime soon. It’s been so long (6 years? more?) that I’ve forgotten how it works … and I’ve misplaced my instruction book … but the library where I work has ONE book that includes basic rigid heddle instructions (including how to make your own loom! not that I need that), so I’ll be making use of it to get myself back into the swing of things. Bookbinding’s a good break for when you need a craft that won’t hurt your wrists (there’s only so long I can knit/crochet, and even cross-stitch gets to me after a while), but weaving is too … I’d forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me!
