Thought I would drop in and let everyone know that Free Quilt Patterns.com has some new quilt patterns on their awesome site of hundred or more free quilt patterns…

I’m using the little snowman clipart to remind myself that there are only about 70 days left before Christmas. Wouldn’t it be nice to be done early…lol Have only known that feeling once in my life and wonder if I will ever know it again..lol

Have a look at the quilt patterns… they’re great…

I finished building the swift and was surprised how easy it was to do. Works like a charm. I have to thank Crafty Diversions for the terrific tutorial. My DH and I put our heads together and made an upright stand to put it on after I took this picture. Then … in my infinite questionable wisdom… I decided to stain and varnish it. Big mistake. It was a smooth as glass… Now it’s more like the treasured plants of the Mojave Desert… sigh All of it will have to be totally sanded again. I used the wrong type polyrethane to do the final coat. Anyway…it will again look like this. And what a wonderful tool….

I’ve been weaving some more on my large inkle loom. I’ve found that as I use it I have learned that moving the warp is not nearly the job that I thought it would be. It must be grasped in two places, pull down with left hand and up with right hand and it moves very smoothly over the pegs. Love it. This long sampler piece is great. Just wish I lived near someone proficient in card weaving.. Would be so much fun to work together.

DH and I went to Ozark Mills a couple of weeks ago for another fiber fix. Gail was overloaded with wonderful colors of wool. I bought the merino shown in the photo and some bright yellow Romney. They were packing the trailer and getting ready to leave for SAFF. … Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair in Fletcher, North Carolina. This will be October 23rd, 24th, 25th so if you live in the area or are on vacation that way…stop by and say hello…

I have put several free patterns that were created by me up on this site. They were uploaded with the thought in mind that others might like to use them. If they are used for personal use… that’s great. If they are used to sell the products ..well… I hope millions are made, all the kids are sent to college and that 4th house in Tuscany is available to be bought. The fact is that those patterns were done easily by me. I did not have to take a lot of notes, work out all the sizes and combinations that would work for everyone in the universe.

I put links up to many free patterns. I do this because I feel that if I enjoy these patterns then my readers will probably enjoy them also. I have blogged about this before….. These patterns are put out there for our enjoyment. Some of them are copyrighted. Some may not be formally copyrighted, but there is such thing as Creative Commons. If a person feels that they want to use a pattern for profit of any kind…. PLEASE BE SURE TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE CREATOR! Just because there is a link to a pattern or a site and the word “free” is used does not mean that it is free for commercial manufacture. The owner of this site cannot give you permission to use the pattern for profit. Only the creator can do that.

It is too sad that the reason for this post is misuse of one of the most popular patterns that is linked to here on Fabric Follies Two.

Yesterday I warped it. I used the method that Michael Cook of Wormspit.com talks about … 2 colors only and continuous warp. Here’s hoping that figuring out the double weave process won’t be too difficult.

It’s with at great deal of dismay that I found the pages that helped me so much from Eve the Just are no longer viable links. I don’t know how to look to see if they are cached anywhere else or not. What a loss to the tablet weaving community!

Annie McHale of A Spinner Weaver.com wondered about the movement of the warp with so many pegs… well… it requires a bit of doing (and I’m not sure if would be better if I had done a better job of sanding) but it can be done without much trouble. Since I have never had an inkle loom before I am not in a position to know how easily it should advance. I can say that this is soooo much easier to use than the small one I have been using that I am totally in love with this one! This first pattern is a simple one… I warped it to try to do double weave alphabets and things, but am having fun just watching this go by…lol

After doing enough of this to make a useful length I will probably try to learn some other things…

Hope all have a wonderful day….

I’ve finished with the inkle loom. I don’t think I got it sanded well enough, but lets hope that with use some of that will change. Here it is:

I haven’t done a true warping yet, but in just playing around I got a 17 yard wrap. I think that will work out to about 15 yards of weaving by the time waste is extracted from that. Can’t wait to try it…lo

I was at a bit of a loss as to what to paint on it so the easiest thing on something this narrow was a vine of roses with a sprinkling of lavendar sweet peas… I think my sweet DH may get a little tired of looking around at all the roses..lol… seems I paint a lot of them.

This was not terribly hard to build. The plans for this are here … the hardest thing to do were the holes to insert the pegs in and drilling completely through the peg to be used for the tension peg. Thank goodness for my sweet DH… (Happy birthday, love!)

More on how this really works a little later… First must finish a couple of other projects before I can even start with this…lol I’m sure no one out there has a clue what I mean by that…lol

Agulha de Ouro is a magazine (be aware there will be a couple of pop-ups with the home site) with a page for LOTS of free embroidery patterns here… with no pop-ups that I know of on the pattern site. I love them. There is a list of types of patterns and I just clicked on each one to see what they are…lol This is .. I think… an Italian site so is not written in English. But the patterns are lovely and it is relatively easy to tell what each category is…

There are alphabet patterns that I will be using to card weave… Can’t wait to see if this works…

I must apologize for such long periods between posts, but it seems that I am working on having a real case of carpal tunnel syndrome and my right arm and hand hurt considerably much of the time… Doctor visit is scheduled for next week and maybe after that things will get back to normal… ;o)

Have a look….

My fascination with this kind of weaving grows with each new pattern that I try. Michael Cook of the Dallas area and the website Wormspit.com was my initial inspiration several years ago when he appeared on the HGTV show That’s Clever. (I seem to have lost the link to the video clip.)

Michael has a wonderful article in this edition of the magazine Spin Off. It doesn’t talk about card weaving but about his other hobby…. raising silk worms! If you get a chance… grab a copy.
