Spinning Merino (wpi chart for spinners!)
December 4, 2007 at 8:48 am | In Crafts, Handcraft, Handwork, Spinning | Leave a CommentI am finding that after spinning the Corriedale, my Merino spinning is a bit lacking. The
Merino seems to want to felt in my hand and will not slide to the right size…therefore this yarn will not be as consistent as the Corriedale. My hands seem to want to sweat more with the Merino than they do with Corriedale. I sit almost directly under a fan (as a tip from someone on the spinners group in Yahoo suggested.. and it does help) Perhaps it has to do with the fact that it sat for so long without being spun and the fact that I have no carders to loosen the fibers… The wheel is my Kromski Prelude.
The 2 ply yarn comes out to be 10 wpi… which is considered bulky. I find that everything I’ve read about spinners consistently spinning the same size thread is turning out to be true. I would love to learn to spin sock yarn size… must work on that.
Fiber Link has a wonderful chart that is a quick way to find the size of your yarn… and how much yardage of a certain size will be spun from a pound of roving. This is great for planning projects.
